It's as if they're saying, we can make it easy for you...but we won't. Isn't there some way to get rid of the speed cap? Though this is a real testament to how far some companies have fallen. I love this idea of a "hybrid" bike, but as you said it would be great to see more and more innovations come around in the biking industry.
